HEART for the Nations
HEART for the Nations has been aiding people in Central America since 2002. Our emphasis is to supply water filters to those most effected by disaster, those without any plumbing and those living in extreme poverty. Up until now we have supplied ceramic water filters in Guatemala, Nicaragua, Myanmar, and Haiti. In Fall 2018 we are launching the construction of a ceramic water filter factory that will employ 5 people. This will be the first factory built in Haiti with the Potters for Peace organization.
Project Haiti 2018-2020
We are returning this fall to Haiti to build a water filter factory. Our first project in Haiti was in 2010 following the devastating earthquake. At that time we were able to purchase 50 water filters from a factory in the Dominican Republic and distribute them in the Port-Au-Prince area. In January 2019 we have scheduled an investigative trip to meet people, collect data, locate cities, organizations, and potters with the intention of building a water filter factory. Once the groundwork is complete we will invite Potters for Peace to Haiti to begin construction of a Haitian-based ceramic water filter factory. GO FUND ME
CERAMIC WATER FILTERS
The filter element is an approximately 11” wide by 10” deep open-top clay cylinder which after firing is coated with colloidal silver, a well known microbicide which remains in the filter for years. The rate of filtration is determined by the mixture of combustible material, sawdust or rice husks, which is added to the clay before firing. The fired, treated filter is then placed in a plastic or ceramic receptacle with a lid and faucet. Filter units are purchased for $40 which supply water to a family of 10 people. They last up to 5 years. Your donation of $40 will help one family in Haiti. Or donate any amount to the construction of a new filter factory.
- One filter costs $40

- Helps a family of 8 to 10 people
- Tested by over 40 universities and proven effective
- Tested and approved by MIT, Cambridge, Yale, John’s Hopkins
Pope John Paul II issued a papal encyclical "Dives in misericordia" on 30 November 1980 declaring that "Jesus Christ taught that man not only receives and experiences the mercy of God, but that he is also called 'to practice mercy' towards others."Supplying water to the needy is a corporal work of mercy which fulfills Jesus’ words to “give drink to the thirsty”. Through HEART for the Nations a family can help a family, a parish can help a parish, to meet the physical needs for water and beyond.
We need your help!
Building a filter factory costs money, from the land we need to buy, to the kiln, clay, drying racks, and much more. Five potters will need to be hired. In all, we need $40,0000 to build the factory in Haiti. We appreciate all donations, both large and small. In addition, most families in Haiti cannot afford the cost of a filter. So they need help too. Each filter costs $40 and will last a family for five years. They need you and every dollar counts. Please GO FUND ME.
